The Jackson Family - New Albany portraits

The day after Karen and Michael's wedding, I got to spend some time with Sarah and Rick and their son Chase, who I photographed last summer, at Rick's parents' home in New Albany with Rick's parents and brothers. It was a fun and relaxed portrait session that also included their cute-cute pooch Sadie. I'm a sucker for a cute pooch, for sure.

Here are some of my favorites from our session:

Melanie's Birthday Party - Columbus Ohio Photographer

The day after my sister's wedding, I headed back out east - although this time not so far - to Pickerington to shoot the birthday party for friends of mine from my days at the Vorys law firm. Rob, the birthday girl Melanie's husband, really did it up, from all kinds of delectable goodies to balloons and an embarrassing slideshow filled with prom dresses and big hair, to the gift of a Big Wheel. The party was great fun and here is some proof:

Happy birthday, Melanie!

Susan's bridal portrait - Columbus Ohio wedding photographer

Well, now that everyone in Rayland and Brilliant has seen my sister Susan's wedding dress, I can finally post some images from the bridal session we did back at the beginning of March. You'll see in the last images how good a sport Susan is in trusting me to "do" her hair and make-up, and not in a conventional way. I thought she looked great no matter, and it was fun sending them via phone to Ryan, teasing that this was going to be her wedding-day look.

Nicholas and Kendal - Columbus Ohio portrait photographer

Last week, I got to spend some quality time with my dear friend and former bride Shawnda and take some photographs of her beautiful and growing family. In addition to precocious Kendal Mae, there's a new baby brother, Nicholas. Kendal has become a laugh riot since I last saw her, with a big vocabulary and adorably funny personality, and baby Nicholas is as sweet and pleasant as he could be. I loved hanging out with them all and here are a few of my favorites from our session in their home.

Josh and Mary

I got to do something yesterday that I've not had the opportunity to do before and it was just so wonderful. I received an inquiry from Josh last week about shooting his proposal to his girlfriend, Mary. It was to be a complete surprise to her, and luckily it worked out just right. Josh and Mary went to an early dinner at Due Amici, so I snuck in and captured a few shots of them while hiding behind the bar and some of the servers. It was tricky, but it worked! Then I ran over to the Kelton House to hide in the bushes to await their arrival. Josh had set up a garden trellis complete with flowers and lights, and when I heard them come into the park my heart started racing!! I was so excited for what was about to happen, and of course that excitement was mixed with a little nervousness as I hoped I wouldn't be spotted there in the foliage! I don't think Mary even noticed the sound of my shutter in her total surprise at Josh getting down on one knee and presenting her with a ring box. It was just so adorable! We then spent a few minutes around the grounds taking a few images for them.

What makes this extra special is that Josh is deploying to Afghanistan tomorrow. I wish him all the best and that he returns safe and sound to Mary and the start of their new life together.

So here are a few shots of our time together. Congratulations, Josh and Mary!

Rowan's Family

On Friday I got to spend some time with some of my favorite clients, Charley and John, and their son Rowan. Charley's sister Ellie and her dog Darby even joined in the fun for our portrait session. Poor Rowan was coming down with a cold but he was a trooper and so so sweet. Here are some of my favorite shots from our session:

When I situated everyone on the stairs, the dog hopped right into the middle of everything and would not stop licking John in the face. And, of course, being a dog, he knew John didn't want licked and just kept persisting. That's a dog for ya.
